Belvoir Federal’s Commitment to Helping the Environment

Belvoir Federal Credit Union is enthusiastic about helping our environment! Through the years, Belvoir Federal has been a leader in innovative technologies that help our members worldwide and assists the credit union in managing our business in a way that impacts the environment in a friendly, positive, and thoughtful manner.

For instance, we encourage carpooling for employees who are traveling to work functions, events, and even to work. We designed our newer facilities to have energy saving fixtures, lighting, HVAC, and other environmentally friendly materials. The newer locations even have lighting shutoffs, so when there is no activity within a room for a certain period of time, the lights will turn off automatically.

Helping Our Members Help the Environment

Saving Trees through eStatements As of 2014, nearly 21,000 of our members receive electronic statements and avoid paper. At a minimum, that’s 252,000 sheets of paper saved annually which results in approximately 30 trees being saved, assuming one tree equals 8,335 sheets of standard paper.
Saving Trees through eReceipts On average, 63% of our members have opted to receive their teller line receipts emailed rather than printed, which again saves paper and trees.
Helping the Environment through Online and Mobile Banking Our electronic transactions through online and mobile platforms have increased tremendously over recent years saving members time and gas traveling to our branches. Our mobile product is convenient and allows for banking to be done whenever and wherever you are located.
Recycling for the Environment through ShredFest We offer a free annual shred day (known as ShredFest) for members and the community to securely shred and recycle their documents.

At the 2014 ShredFest, we shred nearly 16,000 pounds of paper, which is 8 tons. Since 1 ton equals 17 mature trees, Belvoir Federal and the local community were able to recycle 136 mature trees.
Helping the Environment with Paper Cups We have updated our cups in the branches to be paper rather than styrofoam, as cups made from this material contain petroleum-based plastic which can have harmful effects for the environment, including being non-biodegradable and causing air pollution.
